Dramaturg, A Raisin in the Sun
Drew Lichtenberg is thrilled to be returning to Ashland, where he previously worked with Amy Freed on The Taming of the Shrew for Play On! He is Artistic Producer at Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C., where he has served as dramaturg in residence since 2011. For the last ten years, he has also worked as a dramaturgical consultant with the Lorraine Hansberry Literary Trust on productions of Les Blancs at the Royal National Theatre in London (dir. Yaël Farber), The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window at Brooklyn Academy of Music (dir. Annie Kauffman), and now this production of A Raisin in the Sun with OSF and STC (dir. Tim Bond). His multifaceted artistic process has taken him to theatres around the world, including the Royal Shakespeare Company in the United Kingdom, the Roundabout Theatre Company, The Public, and La Mama in New York, and to regional theatres around the country. His writing has appeared frequently in The New York Times and he is the author of two books: The Piscatorbühne Century: Aesthetics and Politics in the Modern Theater after 1927, (Routledge, 2021) and Shakespeare in the Theatre: Shakespeare Theatre Company (Arden Bloomsbury, 2024) with Deborah C. Payne. He is currently on the faculty of Johns Hopkins University and the Catholic University of America and has taught courses at the New School and David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his partner Rebecca and two children, Dylan and Noah.
