Walter Lee Younger in A Raisin in the Sun
Mister in August Wilson’s King Hedley II
Preston Butler III is a multifaceted teaching artist whose work spans acting, directing, writing, and music. He has performed at multiple Tony Award–winning theaters—including the Mark Taper Forum, South Coast Repertory, Dallas Theater Center, and Cleveland Playhouse—as well as internationally in France, Belgium, and Scotland. On screen, he made his debut on NCIS and has portrayed icons such as Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, and Sammy Davis Jr. Preston is thrilled to be back at OSF for his third season after last year’s powerful run as Youngblood in August Wilson’s Jitney! He is especially honored to reunite with Artistic Director Tim Bond; back in 2019 their first collaboration earned Butler a Best Actor award for his performance as “Kitch” in the West Coast premiere of Pass Over at ACT Seattle. Preston holds an MFA in Acting from CalArts and teaches at Orange County School of the Arts and Vanguard University. Infinite love to his amazing wife, Christine, their beautiful baby girl—and to YOU, the heartbeat of live theater. Enjoy the magic! IG: prestoncreates3
